Our History

ICS CYO Basketball History

Immaculate Conception Parish established the CYO Basketball program in 2003. This was no easy feat since the parish did not have a gym. However, this did not dissuade Penny Keefer who was our first CYO coordinator. Penny started the program and was able to procure gym time for practices and also a few home games. The program started with teams in the 4th grade and above. Without Penny's hardwork and the hardwork of the volunteers the program would have never gotten off the ground.

In 2008 Penny handed the reigns off to Rose Brescia-Supik who was one of those hardworking volunteers that I spoke about. She raised the program to new heights and was able to grow the program and also start to have some very competitive teams. Rose ate and slept ICS CYO and the program is grateful for all her efforts.

In 2012 many catholic schools in the area were forced to close. This was a horrible thing for many parents and students. The bright side to this unfortunate circumstances was Anthony Cacciola formerly of Christ the King in Yonkers was now a member of ICS. Rose passed the torch to Anthony and Anthony has been running with it ever since. In 2013 the Parish built a state of the art gym that was built thanks to the generosity of its parishoners. Anthony was able to use the gym and his past coordinator knowledge to bring this program to a place that we would never have imagined 11 years ago.

I am proud to say that I have been part of this program since the beginning. I have coached my son who is now a sophomore in College and then coached a group of young girls from 4th grade to 8th who exceeded all my expectations and improved so much that they came in first place in the A division of the CYO league. I am now a member of the CYO board along with Anthony, Joe Zeolla and Artie Mondrone. The program is only as strong as its volunteers and we have a great parish with many amazing people. I hope everyone has a wonderful 2014/15 basketball season!!!!

I will leave you with a picture of my first team that I ever coached so that we can remember where we came from and what we have achieved as a parish

WE ARE!!!!   CRUSADERS!!!!!
